An afternoon at Windsor and Eaton

Sunday 3rd May 2009

This afternoon we enjoyed a really lovely walk at Windsor, by the River Thames. First, we strolled through Eaton, then down along the Thames Path as far as Romsey Lock. After a very nice Windsor Cream Tea (freshly baked scones – very yummy !), we went up the hill towards the world famous castle, ending up finally in the Great Park.

Simon’s birthday party

Sunday 26th April 2009

This afternoon we invited over my brother Simon and our two nephews Scott & Alex for a birthday tea party. Thanks to the wonderful Spring sunshine, first of all we were able to visit the local park at Swakeleys for a game of ball, some fun in the playground for the boys, and then followed by a lovely walk home for tea past the ducks on the lake.

Here is Simon cutting his birthday cake – keenly watched by sons Scott & Alex !

A day out at the British Museum

Friday 17th April 2009

Today Gina and I played the part of tourists in our own capital city, and decided to spend some quality time at one of the world’s most famous museums. However, due to the immense size of the British Museum, we decided to concentrate (this visit) on viewing just the ancient Egyptian (see below) and Greek rooms (where we saw the Parthenon sculptures – including the “Elgin Marbles“).

Here is a picture of the “Rosetta Stone”. This is believed to be the key to the decipherment of Egyptian hieroglyphs.

The above is a photpgraph from a frieze of the “Elgin Marbles” – iconic sculpture from ancient Greece.

Marc’s charity walk

Sunday 8th March 2009

Today we were all very proud of our eldest son Marc, for successfully completing a near 10 mile long charity walk, in aid of the North London Hospice. The walkers started off from Finchley (north London), then making their way via Hampstead and Highgate onto the finishing point, at Westminster (central London), where they were met by the Mayor of  Westminster, and other well wishers. The charity does much excellent work for the community, such as helping out with cancer patients and their families, which was particularly poignant for Marc, who recently lost his grandfather Charles in January from that terrible illness.

Here’s a picture of Marc, literally towering above the Mayor, and 2 of his work colleagues, at either end.

Delayed Birthday Party

Sunday 15th February 2009

So, we finally got around to holding my annual 39th birthday party, delayed unfortunately due to a rather large amount of snow falling all around. At last, my brother Simon and his sons Scott & Alex were able to join us.

Moya’s visit to London

Tuesday 14th October 2008

This evening we went over to Uncle Lou’s home, for a long time awaited get together with our Australian cousin, Moya.

It was really great to meet up in person with her again, after such a long time, and catch up on all of her news from “down under”.
